design task_
the task deals with the design of a barn with pitched roof in the village of Rathewalde in Saxon Switzerland . The location is 2km north of the Bastei Bridge, which is very popular with tourists.
The area borders on the National Park saxon Switzerland but is still agricultural character. The barn is intended to serve as weather protection for for agricultural equipment and hay.
Apart from agricultural use, the barn is to be used for another
accommodated. This use, which may also be in temporary use, like the barn itself, does not have any building requirements in terms of heat and weather protection. Since the 112 km long Malerweg
path runs directly through the village, additional functions
related to hikers and tourism are conceivable. The agricultural use of the barn should at least ¾ of the surface area. The tractor suitable access to the barn is to be from the south-east. an other, smaller access is possible according to the design. The property is located approx. 300 m above sea level .

meet us at the barn! - on the edge of the village of Rathewalde in saxon switzerland, a barn is being built on a 525 m2 plot of land that can not only be used for agriculture, but also as a public meeting place for young and old. Whether skateboard, scooter or inline skates, everything that rolls and everyone who wants to move is welcome. On the property there is an L-shaped structure, which is completely roofed over. By opening or closing individual sections of the façade, a boundary is created between the buildings used for agricultural purposes and the skating area. The skater area, with its skatebowl protected by the weather, is located centrally between the two agricultural areas. The barns differ in size. The larger barn, which is used for 3 tractors and hay storage, can be accessed from the south-eastern side. the smaller barn, which serves as a workshop and additional storage space, can be accessed from the south-western side of the property. the entire barn has a translucent roof, which reinforces the connection to the surroundings and to being outside.
